Libri_books2It was rather disheartening reading of a young boy trying to fend off the parents with a knife, all because he did not want to go for tuition. Apparently, the parents had him on for tuitions six days a week. That, my friends, is worse than school (which is only a five day work week). Then we read of parents getting up in arms because of some difficult mathematics questions. It was not because their children cannot pass the examinations but the thought that they may not score an A* caused the upset. Whatever happened to “as long as you had done you very best…”? (Try lip service)

Yes, there is the need for us to do well to compete in our society. I also believe in putting in our very best to excel. Do it but do not overdo it. There is a real need for many to search deep within themselves. Is this what they really want? Or is it an overreaction to a perceived (not actual) threat?

It is a reality that church attendance drops near school examination time. God can sit at the sideline until it is over. Of course, come back to God when the examination got tough and divine help is needed. Sadly, this is reality in the way many treat the God that they “worship.” Of course, they also would have no qualms going shopping, play electronic games, facebook (check people who did not come to church on Sunday but are on Fb during that time) during the said period.

Wrong expectations and perceptions must be corrected, first the parents then the children. To be frank, many young ones learn bad examples (regarding their faith) from their parents. That does not absolve the young from taking responsibilities of their own faith.

Let us start to build up true people of God, starting with ourselves. Put away lip services. It is time for action. Align with God, align with success.

God bless!
