I was at a café in a branch of the National Library with a friend (he is not a Christian). All around me were students studying. Next to my table were three SAJC students (I know because it was proudly displayed on their t-shirts) studying. My friend looked at them and lamented that students learn but did not learn. He commented that JC students cannot even read a simple sign above their head. (The sign says “No STUDYING here during weekends” and it was a weekend). There is no point even if they scored all “A”s but have no moral values. To make matter worse, he pointed at their T-shirts and asked if they were Christians.
We have much in Singapore today, so much so that we are becoming rather arrogant without knowing it. We, therefore, start to exhibit post modernistic behaviour – a total disregard for authority. That is why you would often see people parking in no parking areas, buying pirated movies without regrets, downloading music and software illegally and so on. We lament and even cry, but sometimes we may be the culprits.
It is important for us to sit back, reflect and think hard of our actions and decisions. Are we doing what we want others to do to us? You may not sell movies, but the payback can be in other forms. We really must set our sight heavenward. That will give us a good and real perspective of matters at hand. Secular wisdom is flawed and short of foresight. Making decisions from the perspective of the Kingdom of God will help us live a blessed life.
Our thinking affects our decision which in turn determines our actions. Our actions will determine our future, here on earth and beyond. Do not let some small gain at the present forfeit your great gain in God. Think and act wisely.
God bless!
